WILLIAMSPORT — The government wants to drop charges against a Tioga County businessman accused of using $420,000 of government COVID-19 relief funds to buy a house for him and his wife in Alabama.

The motion filed Tuesday does not state why U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann is being asked to dismiss the remaining charges against Nicholas Perkins, 59, of Wellsboro.

He was facing trial in September on bank fraud and false loan application charges.
